The sweat test has been the "gold standard" for diagnosing cystic fibrosis (CF) for more than 40 years. When it is performed by trained technicians, and evaluated in an experienced, reliable laboratory such as RML, the sweat test is still a reliable test to diagnose CF. The test can be performed on individuals of any age. However, some infants may not make enough sweat for the laboratory to analyze. If an infant does not produce enough sweat on the first sweat test, it should be repeated to collect more.

Sweat tests are available only at the 1923 S. Utica location Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00am until 12:00pm. The physician should schedule the test by calling (800) 722-8077; or (918) 744-2500, ext 15521, at least one day in advance if possible. No patient preparation is necessary but the test takes about 1 hour of the patient's time.
