Testing Procedure
- Collect a baseline lactate and ammonia level. (4.5 green and 4 ml gray on ice). Label with patient’s name.
- Obtain patient’s blood pressure.
- Inflate the blood pressure cuff 20 mmHg above systolic pressure for 90 seconds. During this 90 second period, patient exercises forearm by squeezing a ball.
- Collect a lactate and ammonia level 1 minute after the forearm exercise is completed. Place on ice.
- Collect a lactate and ammonia level 3 minutes after the forearm exercise is completed. Place on ice.
- Collect a lactate and ammonia level 5 minutes after the forearm exercise is completed. Place on ice.
- Collect a lactate and ammonia level 10 minutes after the forearm exercise is completed. Place on ice.
